Show Her the Money: The Riveting Stories About the People Behind the Movie and the Movement

Encouraged by the challenge, I raised over a MILLION DOLLARS enabling us to create an award-winning movie – Show Her the Money. The film not only earned a spot on the Oscar “For Your Consideration” list, and won numerous “Best Featured Documentary” awards at festivals across the U.S., but it also sparked a grassroots movement—traveling to over 100 cities worldwide to raise awareness and inspire real change.

This book tells the story of the founders and funders who helped bring this movie to life. It’s more than just a film—it’s a movement. We call it a Movie-ment! – Catherine Gray

Foreward by Sharon Gless, Emmy and Golden Globe winning actress of Cagney & Lacey, Queer as Folk, Burn Notice and many more.

When my good friend, Dawn Lafreeda, invited me to watch a pitch fest, I had no idea I was about to embark on a journey that would ignite a new passion in me. Standing at the back of that room, leaning against the bar, I found myself swept up in the energy, determination, and vulnerability of women pitching their dreams to other women, women who had the power to make those dreams a reality.

As an actress, I’ve spent my career bringing characters to life, but nothing could have prepared me for the raw emotion I witnessed that day. One woman in particular, Vicky Pasche from Dapper Boi, touched my heart with her charm and passion, even as she struggled with her presentation. In that moment, I saw a reflection of every actor who’s ever forgotten a line on stage but pressed on with determination to get back “on script.”

It was a powerful reminder that in business, as in acting, our greatest strength is our ability to be vulnerable yet persistent.

From my days on Cagney and Lacey—the first drama series starring two women on television, watched by tens of millions of people around the world—to today, I have seen the landscape for women change dramatically. Yet, the journey hasn’t been without its setbacks.

Even with our unprecedented success, Cagney and Lacey faced cancellation multiple times, but always the audiences insisted on bringing it back. Women’s achievements can be undervalued or dismissed, a problem that persists today in many industries, including business and finance. As I learned through this project, we still have so far to go. But this film and book showcase the incredible opportunity that’s unlocked when women invest in women.

The film, Show Her The Money, and the book you’re holding represent more than just a documentary or a collection of stories. They are a call to action, an invitation to every woman who’s ever had a dream but lacked the resources to make it a reality. It’s about women helping women, creating a network of support that spans generations and industries.

When I look at these stories, I don’t see just potential for change—I see a reality that is already coming to life.

These women aren’t just dreaming; they’re doing. They’re creating, investing, and succeeding against the odds. And in doing so, they’re paving the way for countless others to follow.
